An Interview with App of The Day: A Quick Lookback at How We Built Habitify

In an interview with App of The Day - one of the leading top software sites, we had a chance to share how Habitify was built and developed. If you care for some behind the scene of our app, feel free to explore here.

Below we would like to share some of the highlights of the Interview. We think it would be best to keep the original form of the interview, so here it is: a Q&A session, answered by Jack - our growth marketer, on behalf of Peter - our CEO.

Did you have any prior development or coding experience?

Peter was an iOS developer in a large company before venturing out with his own entrepreneurial effort. He was promoted to project manager only 2 years after he had joined his first company.

What was the most challenging aspect of developing mobile app?

It was definitely the start-up grind. Peter, alongside 2 co-founders at the time was working and living together working round the clock under Vietnam summer heat to finalize the first version of Habitify, which then didn’t make any money whatsoever. Hardship continued for months.

How long have you been working on this app?

We have been working on Habitify since the early 2017, which is more than 3 years now.

What need of the user did you have in mind when developing this app?

Peter started Habitify for 1 core reason: people are busy focusing on the wrong things. Not only that they are building up the wrong habits, users are also wasting a lot of productive time in clunky, unnecessary features.

In what way do you think your app is better than similar apps on the market? Please describe in detail what innovation you think you bring and what you are proud of in your app.

We take pride in our philosophy behind designing Habitify: simple and powerful. We believe that making things simple not only makes it easier for the users but also improves their productivity and builds up momentum. And after distilling habit building to their essentials (the trio of notification – logging – tracking), we push all the features to their maximum power.

Whether it is being one of the first truly multi-platform habit tracker app, or keeping the design as simple, or the detailed reports on users’ progress, our philosophy remains.

What are your future plans and expected features of the coming new versions of this app?

We plan to continue enhancing the experience on all platforms: to give the best experience whether you are using iOS, Android, Web, Mac, or Apple Watch.

2020 will be an exciting year for Habitify, as we have already re-vamped our Mac App version. Later this year, Health Integration features will make it effortless for users to track their fitness data from apps like Apple Health or Samsung Health. Following up, we will introduce goal setting for habits (repetition for habits), which is expected to be a complete game-changer for Habitify.
